A fun, immersive way to learn French
What I like best about this fun book is how you can see your knowledge growing slowly as you read. In each of the 18 chapters, you first read the chapter in French alone, but with certain bold French words defined in English a paragraph or two later. That's not an easy experience, at least not for me: I'm maybe a bit pre-intermediate/B1 level, and there were plenty of NON-bold words that I had to decide if I should look them up or just plow ahead. But it's not too hard; it always felt like a challenge that I had to work at but could accomplish. This reading is followed by a quiz with questions and answers entirely in French.
But THEN you're immediately given the same story with French in one column and English in the next column, allowing you to see how well you understood it the first time around, followed by the same quiz, this time both in French and in English. That second read-through helps you see your mistakes, sure, but it also immediately gives you an addictive feeling of pride at how much you DID understand. I find I get the most out of it when I do the whole chapter in one sitting: first the French-only (with some bold words) version, then the side-by-side version while it's fresh in my mind.

One thing I see repeated constantly while trying to learn a new language is read. Read everything. This will help you learn grammar and aid you in recognizing words as you progress.
This book is fun. It's broken down into short stories which are easily digestible and each took me about 10-15 minutes to read (I'm currently somewhere between A2-B1 on my path to learning French). The stories aid you in learning some harder vocabulary and allow you to read either just with French in front of you, or with both French and English side by side, so you can translate. BONUS, you can do audio too, and follow along.
It's fun to get a glimpse into everyday life in Paris, and prepare you for your future visits.
Excellent read
The book is engaging and contained a bits of history here and there and takes you on a mini tour of Paris. The language is readable for someone like me who has completed A1 level and about to embark to intermediate. The English translation is very useful so that I did not have to scramble and find a Harraps dictionary. A wonderful read, you learn as you go.
Interesting Read
This was the first time I read a book in French that wasn't a childrens fairy tale. This was a little more complicated for me but it held my attention, helped me expand my vocabulary and I enjoyed the quizzes that reinforced my reading comprehension. I highly recommend this book.
